UTV New Media Downsizes IT Nation

Varinder Walia made Editor of Punjabi Tribune

Varinder Walia has been made the Editor of Punjabi Tribune, the language publication from Tribune Trust. He takes charge from August 15. Walia, who has been Special Correspondent in Amritsar for The Tribune, replaces Sidhu Damdami, the outgoing Editor who completed his three-year term with the daily on July 31.

Adlabs Announces Rights Issue; To Raise Upto Rs600 Crore

Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group firm Adlabs Ltd today said its board has approved a rights issue of equity shares to raise upto Rs600 crore. Funds will be utilized to expand the number of screens worldwide (to over 570 from 428 now), establish a media BPO, set up studios and sound stages in Mumbai’s Film City and to enhance production infrastructure. The promoter group will subscribe to the unsubscribed portion of the issue. Post issue, the company’s net worth will be enhanced to Rs1,000 crore, the company said. For the year ended 31 March, the company reported consolidated net loss of Rs54.5 crore against revenues of Rs662 crore.

ISRO Maps Bhuvan Launched – Download Site Down!

ISRO planned to launch is own Google Earth like mapping application last year. The plan is now becoming reality. The ISRO's revolutionary earth mapping tool called ‘Bhuvan' was launched here today. The website is available in beta version. It is believed that the ISRO's latest earth mapping tool have more features than Google Earth. The Bhuvan is focused on Indian sub-continent barring all sensitive locations such as military and nuclear installations. ISRO's Bhuvan is latest version of Google Earth, which allows common man to zoom into any part of the world on their personal computer using satellite images. Bhuvan is a Geoportal of Indian Space Research Organisation showcasing Indian Imaging Capabilities in Multi-sensor, Multi-platform and Multi-temporal domain. The portal gives a gateway to explore and discover virtual earth in 3D space with specific emphasis on Indian region.

A day after producers of two big budget films—Karan Johar’s Saif Ali Khan-starrer Kurbaan and Anil Sharma’s Salman Khan-starrer Veer—cancelled shooting schedules in Pune due to the spread of the H1N1 Flu in that city, two producers said their films, scheduled to open this weekend, will have delayed openings in parts of Maharashtra. UTV Motion Pictures’ highly-anticipated Kaminey and Indian Film Company’s Life Partner, won’t open in parts of Maharashtra, including Mumbai, a major box-office market as well as the nerve centre of Bollywood.
