With the advent of Smartphones, everyone today is talking about Internet on mobiles, 3G speeds etc etc. However, SMS, a traditional short message service on mobile, even today is pretty much the most frequently used feature after calling..errr even more than calling.
yes, thats true, majority of Indian population, especially younger crowd, uses SMS more than calling. Even professionals use it for myriad of reasons, including checking bank balances, mobile bills, and status of train/flight etc.
Recent TRAI data shows that Indians are using SMS as an extension of their lives more and more every year, an average Indian sends 29 SMS per month. Just multiply that with number of ever growing Mobile subscribers in India and you will have an idea of amount of SMS traffic India generates!

The government has appointed Raghu Menon as the top-ranking official overseeing media and entertainment industries at the ministry of information and broadcasting. The 1974-batch IAS officer from the Nagaland cadre will replace Sushma Singh, who retired in May. Tourism secretary Jawahar Sircar was holding additional charge of I&B thus far.
contentSutra first reported that Menon’s appointment was in the pipeline.
In Menon, I&B ministry gets an official who has a great deal of experience and familiarity with issues in the media and entertainment domain. Menon had earlier served as joint secretary for five years and then as additional secretary for a year at I&B ministry. Menon’s last appointment was as CMD of National Aviation Company of India Ltd (Air India).

News Corp. (NYSE: NWS) subsidiary Star India last week launched Star Player—an online video destination that currently features content from the broadcaster’s multiple channels. Star Player’s design and layout is similar to Hulu and Gurtej Sandhu, SVP for new media at Star, told contentSutra that the US-focussed video site is “a guiding light” in terms of building relationships with competing broadcasters, among others.
Other video sites focussing on Indian content include Nautanki.tv, Rajshri.com and NDTV’s Tubaah.com.
