Jawahar Sircar, culture secretary to the government of India, has been given additional charge of the ministry of information and broadcasting. He replaces Sushma Singh, who retired on 31 May. Sircar, a 1975 batch officer of the Indian Administrative Service from the West Bengal cadre, will hold the additional charge till the time a full-time replacement is found.
With Sircar's appointment, there are now new hands in several key decision making establishments that govern the media and entertainment sector. Trai (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) has a new boss in J.S. Sarma, while I&B ministry has a new minister of the cabinet rank, two junior ministers and a new secretary.
